Please note the new policy concerning tardiness. Establishing a routine at home and in the classroom is vital to establishing an inviting atmosphere once students arrive. When students are late, it interrupts the schedule academically and in practicality.
Students in First Grade should spend approximately 20 minutes nightly on homework. Directions need to be read to your child even if he/she can read because comprehension may not be present. One good indication of your child’s being able to understand is to explain the directions in his/her own words. Your child should be printing his/her own name on each assignment BEFORE he/she begins. Each assignment should be number dated. EX. 9/14/05. All work is to be written in pencil.
A supply list was sent home with your child at the end of last year. Students will most likely need to replenish glue sticks, white glue, crayons, and markers after Christmas vacation.
Lunch tickets are to be purchased on THURSDAY. Please send in the amount necessary to cover the number of tickets to be purchased. Kindly place it in an envelope with your child’s name and grade. All fund raising money collected must also be enclosed in an envelope labeled accordingly to avoid confusion.
A SHORT snack recess is given daily in the morning. Children need to eat breakfast to ward off hunger enough until lunch at 11:30 a.m. Please put snack in brown paper bag or lunch box labeled with your child’s name.
Students may purchase lunch daily. They may either have hot lunch for the day, the bagel plate with fruit and yogurt or the sandwich of the week. We try to encourage the children to eat half their lunch or more if they are hungry to substantially carry them through the remaining school day. Please remember that hot lunch tickets are to be bought each Thursday as tickets are not to be purchased on a day-to-day basis. Milk is provided for those students who wish to purchase it for 35 cents.
The children go to the library/media center on Mondays and Wednesday for computer starting next week. This is not a class that plays just computer games. Your child will be learning key strokes using the home keys on the computer to benefit from the knowledge and to begin this skill correctly to access information, to type class assignments, and to write for publication.
A library period is scheduled each Friday. Please be sure to have your child bring his/her book back to school BEFORE the scheduled library time. No student will be allowed to take another book home until the previous book is returned. Books lost or damaged become the responsibility of the parent or guardian to replace or pay the amount to purchase a new book.
Gym class is scheduled for each Tuesday. Uniforms are to be worn to school. Shorts and a tee shirt are to be worn during the warmer months while a sweatshirt and sweat pants are to be worn during the colder months. Sneakers are worn only on Gym day.
Music class is scheduled each Thursday afternoon. Art class is scheduled each Tuesday afternoon. Please be assured of your child’s safety when walking with an adult to and from the Church hall during these classes or any scheduled extracurricular activity. Please encourage your child to show the same respect to all teachers.
Each first Friday of the month and on holy days of obligation, students attend Mass in our school parish. Full uniforms are to be worn on that day.
